Included are several opportunities to earn initiation points, including two after the ceremony. If you sign up for these, and plan on using them to complete the 15 points, it will be on an honor system. That being said, we will be serious about you attending them. We are also looking for a sophomore or junior (this includes initiates) to chair Evening with Industry next semester. This is one of the best non-officer leader ship positions in HKN, and a great experience. Power Lunch with Douglas Jones Tuesday, December 2nd, Noon - 1:30pm at Illini Union 2nd Floor Ballroom Interested in having lunch with a professor? Professor Douglas Jones would be glad to spend lunch with you after Thanksgiving break! With extensive knowledge in research and experience in Digital Signal Processing, he will have much to share! Sign on in the HKN office as well as on the ETS. 1 pt will be awarded. Power Lunch with Carney Wednesday, December 3rd, Noon - 1:30pm at Illini Union 2nd Floor Ballroom If you are interested in optics and imaging, this power lunch with Professor Carney is for you. Besides research, he also loves biking, attempting to play basketball, and is the current HKN faculty advisor. 1 point will be awarded Clean Up the Office Wednesday, December 3rd, 5:00pm at HKN office Help clean up the office and earn initiation points while you're at it! Contact Michael Ford (the Director of Operations) for more details. 1 point Super Smash Tourney Friday, December 5th, 6:30pm at Illini Union 314A Come to the Melee Tournament and show off your playing skills! There will be a singles and a doubles tournament, and it costs $3 for each tournament, and only $5 total if you sign up for both. There will be great prizes given to the winners, and great fun for everyone! Just bring your controller, and make sure you get there 30 min early for registration and sign ups. There will be a sign up sheet in the HKN office, so make sure you sign up! But remember to get there on time, because only the first 32 singles and 16 doubles teams will be allowed to participate! Two points will be awarded for this event. 3 points will be awarded! Final Board Meeting (after initiation) Monday, December 8th, 5:00pm at Everitt 330-N Come to the final HKN board meeting to see the inner workings of the organization. 1 point will be awarded. HKN Initiation Banquet Saturday, December 6th, 4:00-8:00pm at Engineering Hall and Illini Union Colonial Room Attendance at this event is MANDATORY for initiation into HKN. Attire is Business Professional. The initiation ceremony will be held in Eng Hall Room 106B1 (4-6pm) and the banquet (6-8pm) will held right after at the Illini Colonial Room. EWI Chair Evening with Industry is an event put on every semester by HKN, where we invite several companies down to have info sessions and a banquet dinner with students in a one-on-one environment. The EWI chair (with a committee) is responsible for bringing companies to campus, overseeing the EWI website, student registration, securing catering for the meal, and the running of the event. It is an excellent leadership opportunity, and we encourage any sophomore or junior to apply for it. Vision Committee Fridays, 4:00pm at the HKN Office Interested in shaping the future of HKN? IEEE Gripe Session Thursday, December 4th, 7:00pm at 165 Everitt The Gripe Session is a way for students to give anonymous feedback for all the required ECE courses, and any other courses that attendees want to discuss. There will be no professors or TAs at this event. The feedback and results will be compiled and emailed to the professor and ad visors. The GripeSession has been received well by the department and is something that professors actively look forward to every semester.
