Initiation Ceremony and Banquet

Come congratulate our new initiates on their accomplishments.They have worked extremely hard to put together successful events and grow through their HKN experiences. The initiation ceremony will be first and will be followed by the banquet. Professor Douglas Jones will be giving our new members advice for their continued success before the banquet dinner. Flag Football Practice

In preparation for our win over IEEE, come join us for practice this Friday, May 1st at 3PM on the Bardeen Quad. You don't have to be good - that's what the practice is for. Even if it's just a way to spend the time before happy hour, or for you initiates to earn 1 point, come.

Flag Football vs. IEEE

Come play (or cheer) for the HKN team as we squash IEEE in this first ever epic match up. The game is Saturday, May 2nd at 3PM at the Complex fields. Initiates: 3 points ought to get you excited if nothing else does.

ICTM

The Mathematics Department is seeking volunteers for the ICTM (Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics) High School Math Contest to be held on the UIUC campus on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Over 3000 high school students from around the state will be here that day, and we need about 200 volunteers to proctor, grade, enter data, usher, time oral competitions and many other jobs! For most of the jobs, you don't need any special qualifications. Some volunteers are also needed during the week before May 2. Go to http://www.math.uiuc.edu/ictm to sign up.

Eta Kappa Nu is having its third General Meeting. Come hear what the plans are for next year and let us know what you think. As always, we will be serving free Papa John’s Pizza - don’t miss it!

Office Hour Tutoring

We will give you 2 points if you sign up for tutoring during office hours. Send Sujeeth Bharadwaj ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) a list of classes that you're comfortable with (comfortable doesn't mean you aced the class. As long as you can help someone with a homework problem, you're in good shape). There are two reasons you would want to do this: 1) The two points 2) It's boring to just sit there and stare at your facebook account for an hr.

New Meeting Time for Vision Committee

The HKN Vision Committee is an opportunity to help create and support new ideas within HKN. It is a great venue to have your voice heard and it is an opportunity to gain further knowledge of the organization. Meetings will now be held on Wednesdays at 7pm in the HKN Office (243 Everitt). All initiates and members are welcome. Joining the Vision Committee and participating (by attending at least 4 meetings and helping to support new ideas) will earn you 5 initiation points!
